With less than a week to go until the NBA draft, the Houston Rockets remain aggressive in their pursuit of the No. 1 overall pick from the Detroit Pistons, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Rockets have long been after the pick from the Pistons and are said to be targeting former Oklahoma State guard Cade Cunningham. They have even done extensive homework on Cunningham ahead of the draft in case they can land the pick from Detroit.

On Friday, Cunningham said he is intrigued with the Rockets given their youth and athleticism. He maintained he would only meet with the Pistons and would likely only visit the Rockets if they traded up from the second overall pick.

Houston continues to weigh its options regarding the potential to trade up.

I’m told they’re aggressively pursuing Detroit’s No. 1 overall pick. … The Rockets have some extensive research on presumptive No. 1 pick Cade Cunningham. That’s a player they would target if they were able to land the No. 1 overall pick. As of now, the Rockets have the No. 2 pick and they are doing research in terms of seeing if they can move up to one or what possibilities they have at No. 2.

The Rockets enter the draft as one team to watch in terms of making a move up. While they would like the opportunity to draft Cunningham, they are also said to be content with staying put at No. 2 and taking Jalen Green from the NBA G League.

In any case, it should be worth monitoring to see if the Rockets can create a trade package attractive enough to get the Pistons to trade the pick. With the draft approaching on Thursday, the rumors and speculation should continue to swirl.
