Rookie Cardinals CB Lorenzo Burns lands on COVID list

The Arizona Cardinals rookies reported for training camp on Thursday and one of them is unable to be around the team for the time being. The team announced Friday that undrafted rookie cornerback Lorenzo Burns was placed on the COVID-19 reserve.

It is not known yet when he landed on the list because he tested positive for the virus or simply had close contact with someone he did.

This comes on the day after the league sent a memo to players letting them know the potential consequences of a COVID outbreak among non-vaccinated players.

If Burns has been fully vaccinated, he would not have been placed on the list for close contact. If he has not yet, then he would be among the roughly half the team who has not yet been vaccinated or is choosing not to be.

According to the league transaction report, four players leaguewide were placed on the COVID reserve. Three were for positive tests and one for high-risk, close contact. It is unknown which applies to Burns.

Burns was one of four undrafted rookies the Cardinals signed after the draft out of the University of Arizona.

Missing the first part of training camp will set him back in his quest to make the team, especially if he ends out being out a couple of weeks.
