Diogo Dalot has declared Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest of all time in a debate that seems to forever go on.

The Portugal star and Lionel Messi have dominated world football for over a decade, picking up countless individual accolades.

Both have achieved huge levels of success, albeit they go about it in very different ways.

Dalot, Ronaldo's compatriot, believes the Juventus striker is the game's great player after being quizzed by OneFootball.

He said: "The GOAT [greatest of all time], for me, I would say CR7, Cristiano [Ronaldo]."

Dalot has previously praised Ronaldo for the way he has worked to become the model professional.

He said: “Ronaldo, for me, was the main one. He was my idol from day one. Not because he’s Portuguese, or his style of playing, but for his hard work.

"When you think of an athlete, a complete athlete, a complete footballer, you need to choose Cristiano.

“For me, he was the main inspiration to start playing football. Not because I want to be like him, I want to take my own path, but to get to know him and see how he works is unbelievable.”

Ronaldo has won five Ballon d'Ors during his career, although Messi recently leapt ahead of him with a sixth victory in 2019.

The Juventus star has also claimed Champions League glory on five occasions and enjoyed success at three of Europe's heavyweights.

Dalot continued to be quizzed on his thoughts beyond Ronaldo and was asked what trophy he would most like to win.

He replied: "I think winning a World Cup with your country would have a special feeling, so I would choose World Cup,"

The full-back was also quizzed on who the best player he's played alongside was, with his answer coming as a surprise.

"I would say El Mago, Juan Mata [best player he's worked with]," he said.

The Spaniard has recently penned a new United deal having already spent seven full years at Old Trafford.

Mata has made over 270 appearances for the Red Devils.

He said: I’m staying because I still believe I can give so much to the team and I think the club believes the same.

“I’m very, very hopeful and excited to still win trophies here. It’s very special to be a player at this club and it’s even more special to win trophies and that’s why I’m here and all the players are here.”
