Shock stats reveal how Arsenal transfer target Yves Bissouma outperformed Chelsea star N’Golo Kante last season
ARSENAL target Yves Bissouma statistically outperformed Chelsea's finest N'Golo Kante in many departments last season.
The Brighton star was, on paper, one of the best midfielders in the Premier League during the 2020-21 campaign.
Data collected by FBref suggests Bissouma produced more interceptions and tackles (174) than any other player in the Prem last term.
And the Premier League's official stats page shows the 24-year-old made more tackles, interceptions and clearances than Kante.
The Malian midfielder was also not shy going forward, unleashing 42 shots and scoring once, and completed 1,685 passes - again more than Kante.
Bissouma enjoyed a breakthrough season in England's top flight last term, making 36 league appearances to help Brighton survive.
Kante is regarded by many to be the best midfielder in the Premier League after winning two titles with Leicester and Chelsea, among other trophies.
Critics cannot over analyse the stats, though, as Bissouma was required to do more defending than Kante in a Brighton team battling relegation.
THE NEW KANTE?
But Bissouma's impressive statistics prove why so many top English clubs are after his signature this summer.
Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal are all believed to be keen on the 19-cap international, who reportedly wants to leave Brighton.
The Gunners, who face losing midfielder Granit Xhaka to Roma, are said to be the most interested in signing Bissouma.
Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has urged his former club to purchase the Brighton star, telling talkSPORT: "Bissouma will be superb.
"I think he is efficient, he has got lots of energy, good on the ball, he is young enough for Arsenal to get four years out of him."
COMPETITION: SPOT THE BALL TO WIN A CAR AND CASH
Arsenal have already signed a new midfielder this summer, Anderlecht star Albert Sambi Lokonga, 21.
They've also been linked with Italian midfielder Manuel Locatelli, with Serie A side Sassuolo setting a £34million asking price.
And the Gunners are reportedly close to signing Brighton defender Ben White, who is currently enjoying a well-earned break in Mykonos.
