Manchester United may have factored in Jesse Lingard for their future plans but the star is attracting interest from other clubs - namely Everton.

New Toffees boss Rafa Benitez is said to be impressed with Lingard after his successful loan spell at West Ham last season.

The Hammers are also interested in securing a permanent deal for Lingard but the competition with Everton is said to be fierce.

It's thought the 28-year-old would add to the wide options for Everton which is said to be a priority for Benitez who wants to feed Dominic Calvert-Lewin more ball.

The new boss has already signed Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace and he is looking at bagging Bayer Leverkusen star Demarai Gray.

The Everton rumours, reported by The Sun, will be worrying for United, who want Lingard back in the fold in the upcoming campaign.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer outlined his plans for the star on Sunday after the club's 2-1 pre-season friendly win over Derby.

He told MUTV: "Jesse has come back, been bright, he wants to fight for his place.

"We lacked some options at times [last season]. Jesse is in the plans at the moment."

Lingard could be crucial to Solskjaer's season as Marcus Rashford is still having trouble with his shoulder injury.

It is looking likely that the England star will miss the first two months of the 21/22 term as the issue may require surgery.

Solskjaer added: "We are looking at the best options.

"He went away to reflect on it a little bit.

"We have to take the best course of action for him and the club."

The Red Devils will be keen to keep Lingard, especially after star player Bruno Fernandes outlined exactly what he can offer the club.

He said at the end of last season: "If you see Jesse, I think Jesse, at the moment, if you watch the last 10 games, has been top, top, top level.

"For me, if you watch the last 10 games, he's been the best player in the Premier League, scoring and assists in every game.

"Everyone here is really, really happy for him. He has confidence back, he has his swag back, because he is feeling confident. We are really, really happy for what he's doing."

Whilst United appear keen to keep Lingard's talents at the club, he now seemingly has increasing options which could be tempting as he aims to maintain the form he restored at the end of last season away from Old Trafford.
