Trea Turner hit the go-ahead single in a three-run sixth inning, and the Washington Nationals rallied past to beat the visiting Miami Marlins 6-3 on Tuesday for their third consecutive win.
After Miami scored three times in the top of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead, the Nationals tied it when pinch-hitter Yadiel Hernandez’s bloop single down the left field line scored Tres Barerra, who had doubled off Richard Bleier (2-1).
After Alcides Escobar was hit by a pitch, Turner singled to drive home Hernandez, and Juan Soto added another RBI single to make it 5-3.
Pinch hitter Josh Bell socked the 100th homer of his career in the eighth inning to cap the scoring. It was his 14th long ball of the year.
Washington reliever Kyle Finnegan (4-2) pitched one scoreless inning for the win, and Brad Hand tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his 20th save.
Adam Duvall hit a three-run homer for Miami, which lost its fourth straight game.
Marlins All-Star Trevor Rogers gave up two runs on five hits over five innings. He struck out three and walked three. It was his fifth straight start of less than six innings.
Paulo Espino, starting for Washington in place of Joe Ross (elbow), matched his longest outing of the season. He pitched five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out three without a walk. He had thrown 51 pitches in relief on Friday night.
The Nationals got a break in the second inning when Marlins left fielder Magneuris Sierra initially came in on Josh Harrison’s drive and it went over his head for a double. Rogers retired the next two batters, but Victor Robles singled to center, scoring Harrison with the game’s first run.
Miami had four hits in the first three innings against Espino but stranded all four baserunners.
Washington’s Juan Soto walked his first two times up and Rogers proceeded to retire Ryan Zimmerman for the third out. In the fifth, with one out and Turner on first, Rogers got Soto to fly out, but Zimmerman doubled to the wall in center on an 0-2 fastball, scoring Turner to make it 2-0.
With Espino gone, the Marlins took advantage of reliever Austin Voth in the sixth. Isan Diaz walked, Starling Marte singled and Duvall smacked an 0-1 fastball over the Marlins bullpen for his 21st homer of the season, giving Miami a 3-2 lead.
