New Police Designation Available For Those With Autism, Other Conditions

Michigan residents can now designate conditions they have that could affect their interactions with law enforcement.

People with conditions like deafness or autism can apply to add a designation in the Law Enforcement Information Network.

Officers would see that information when they run a check during a traffic stop.

The designation would not be added to the person’s driver’s license.

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson announced the new “communication impediment designation” during a news conference on Monday.
