Liverpool Midfielder Is Set To Sign A New Contract

Midfield is seemingly a problem position for Liverpool currently. Gini Wijnaldum has departed for PSG, the club and Jordan Henderson are having contract issues and we still haven't brought in anyone for that position this summer.

Our current midfield is well stacked but Thiago, Henderson and James Milner are all 30 plus.

While Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are very injury prone.

That just leaves Fabinho and an the inexperienced Curtis Jones.

In the next few years, this might turn into a massive problem for The Reds if they don't act quickly and sign some quality midfield talent.

It's not like there isn't players to sign either. Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez is on the move this summer, Eduardo Camavinga is also running down his contract at Rennes and Jude Bellingham will eventually want a return to his home country to play in the Premier League.

If Liverpool want to challenge for the top trophies for years to come then they need to starting signing some quality and long-term successors to the current roster.

One player who you would not consider a 'successor' is current Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita.

Since joining from RB Leipzig in 2018, Keita has had shades of the form we saw in Germany but apart from that he has been riddled with injuries and has failed to cement a place in Jurgen Klopp's first team.

Despite not impressing fans, according to Neil Jones at GOAL, he thinks that Naby Keita will sign a new contract at Liverpool.

Jones was giving an interview on Kopite Podcast when he made the claim.

"I think Naby Keita will sign a new contract at Liverpool personally, but it's one of those where you have to look at it - can you justify giving him a big new contract if he hasn't nailed down a starting spot?"

This would be absolute madness if Liverpool are going to offer him a new contract. Keita needs to prove that he deserves one.

If the midfielder can stay fit then we know his talent but he needs to show the fans and coaching staff that first.
