Man arrested for child endangerment after infant injured in crash, police say

TULSA, Okla. — A man was arrested Saturday after a crash injured a six-month-old child, Tulsa police said.

Tulsa police responded to an injury collision at 3500 S. Memorial Dr. and when officers arrived they found that the baby had been injured in the collision.

“The investigation revealed that the collision occurred on S. Memorial Drive at the BA Expressway,” Tulsa police said in a press release. “A northbound car collided with a truck and trailer turning left onto the eastbound ramp to the Expressway. The intersection is controlled by traffic signals but the driver’s statements conflicted to the condition of the signals at the time of the collision.”

Donald Ramsey was driving with the child in a baby carrier on his chest, police said.

Police said they believe the infant was injured by impact with the airbag which deployed in the collision.

Ramsey told offices he carried the infant on his chest because the child cries when placed into a car seat, police said. The infant’s seat was in the back seat of the car.

“Officers noticed that Ramsey had symptoms of intoxication,” police said. “He admitted to having taken both prescription medications and cannabis within 24 hours of the collision. Officers found empty prescription narcotic bottles in the car.”

Ramsey was arrested for child endangerment.
