Left fielder Tim Locastro, whom the New York Yankees acquired on July 1, has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee after he ran into a wall while making a catch on Saturday night.
He is out for the season.
The 29-year-old Locastro, who appeared in nine games for New York after the Arizona Diamondbacks traded him for pitching prospect Keegan Curtis, was hitting .180 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 64 games this season. He was 4-for-21 with a homer and two RBIs for the Yankees.
Locastro’s injury occurred as he was making the catch of a foul ball down the left-field line in the first inning. He finished the inning but did not come out for the second inning.
The five-year veteran, who also appeared in 21 games in 2017-18 for the Dodgers, is a career .231 hitter with five home runs, 31 RBIs and 31 stolen bases.
