Cover picture for the articleHARRISBURG – Some state House lawmakers, who are veterans of military service, expressed grave concerns and reservations about the Biden Administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan. They took issue with the method by which the administration is withdrawing and the void it is leaving in the aftermath. In fact, the Taliban is already moving in, using violence and occupying land. Lebanon County Rep. Frank Ryan, a retired Marine Reserve Colonel and veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, said the administration’s actions are compromising almost 20 years of U.S. and allied efforts to stabilize the region in the war against terrorism. Montgomery County Rep. Tracy Pennycuick, a U.S. Army combat veteran who retired after 26 years of both active and reserve service, noted that with our abrupt withdrawal, the interpreters, without whom we could not have operated, and who have consistently put their lives and the lives of their families at risk for working with U.S. Forces, will be in grave danger. The veterans all indicated that they, their fellow service members, and families sacrificed too much to stand idly by with our future global stability being threatened by the administration’s actions.
