I have a cat who loves to sleep and spends entire days curled up in a cat bed. We have a number of them throughout our home, though there’s only one he’s truly obsessed with: a Tuft + Paw Nuzzle cat bed, which the retailer sells for about $169 on its website.

Yet it’s not just the look of the Tuft + Paw Nuzzle that I love—it’s how happy it makes my picky cat, who tends to ignore most cat beds in our home. This faux fur cat bed has a doughnut-shaped design and an Ultrasuede base that's supposed to help the bed from sliding on surfaces. The company says the whole thing, including the molded foam interior, is machine-washable on a gentle cycle and can be hung up to dry. For light cleaning between washes, it recommends vacuuming. I haven’t personally washed my Tuft + Paw Nuzzle yet, though I did notice the cover is removable when the time comes.

It's also lightweight, so I’ll often move it to the edge of our couch. My cat likes to be near me when I’m watching TV in the evening, though it’d also work in living room corners, basements or atop tables in a home office.

What I like about the Tuft + Paw Nuzzle cat bed

The biggest perk is how cozy my cat seems. At 22 inches wide, the bed is just the right size for him to climb inside and curl up in a ball. The bed’s edges are lined in faux fur, adding a layer of warmth on all sides to make him feel comfortable and safe. My cat also recently got a haircut, so curling up in this cat bed is the equivalent of wrapping him in a blanket.

The Nuzzle is indeed slip-resistant, as the company claims on its website. Whether I place it on the couch, floor or carpet, the bed stays put.

What I don't like about the Tuft + Paw Nuzzle cat bed

There's no getting around it: The Tuft + Paw Nuzzle is pricey.

My biggest gripe is the price. At $169, it’s much more expensive than most cat beds, which I’ve seen elsewhere for $10–$50. This is by far the highest price for a cat bed I’ve come across, although I’ve rarely seen another product with its modern look—likely a contributing factor to its higher-than-average price tag.

There are cat beds of all shapes and sizes, though Dr. Sara Ochoa, a Texas-based veterinarian, recommends looking for one specific type. “I have found that the best cat bed is a circle bolster bed,” she says. “This is a bed shaped like a doughnut with a sunken-down middle. It gives your cat a place to curl up and sleep, and a place to help them rest their head.”

Is the Tuft + Paw Nuzzle cat bed worth it?

Despite its price, I find the Tuft + Paw Nuzzle to be worth the initial sticker shock. It looks beautiful in my home, and my cat truly loves sleeping inside of it. Though he’s had many cat beds over the years, this is the only one he wants to stay in all day (and sometimes all night). I’ve yet to try cleaning the bed, though I do like that the brand says it’s safe to plop in the washer to get rid of fur and dust.
