Reports: NBC Sports trying to sign ESPN broadcaster Maria Taylor

NBC Sports is attempting to sign ESPN broadcaster Maria Taylor, according to Front Office Sports and the New York Post. Taylor's contract with ESPN expires on July 20, according to multiple reports.

The New York Post reported that NBC wants to sign Taylor by July 23 to include her in the network's Olympic coverage. Front Office Sports reported that Taylor could become the new host of “Football Night in America.”

Taylor has also worked on "College GameDay" at ESPNand could be involved with Notre Dame broadcasts at NBC Sports, according to Front Office Sports, which said the deal might include NBC’s “Today” show as well.

The deal is at the "half-yard line," a source told Front Office Sports. The source noted "that can still be a long way in contract negotiations."

Taylor, 34, is currently hosting “NBA Countdown” during the NBA Finals but has been at odds with ESPN over a new contract. Front Office Sports reported that Taylor is seeking $5 million or more, while ESPN has offered to increase her salary to at least $3 million.

Taylor was the target of ESPN colleague Rachel Nichols' comments about her hosting "NBA Countdown," according to a leaked recording of a phone conversation obtained by The New York Times. During the conversation, Nichols implied Taylor received the position due to the network's poor track record with diversity.
