The Philadelphia Union announced a multi-year contract extension Thursday for goalkeeper Andre Blake.

The deal keeps the 30-year-old veteran in Philadelphia through 2024, with a club option for the 2025 season.

The 2020 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year helped the Union win their first Supporters’ Shield last season and has been with the club since 2014, when he was the No. 1 overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft.

“Andre was the backbone of the best defense in MLS last season and has been a key piece of our club’s success the past few seasons,” Union sporting director Ernst Tanner said in a news release.

“… As the rest of the league recognized last year, we have the best keeper in North America, and he is continuously getting better. While his play speaks for itself on the field, his mentality and the leadership role he has taken in our young squad has been as equally important. We are thrilled that he will remain with our club for years to come.”

Blake has allowed just 11 goals in 12 starts this season and has 43 saves. He is Philadelphia’s all-time leader in games played (157), games started (157), minutes played (14,093), saves (505) and clean sheets (44).

Blake, a native of Jamaica, also earned Goalkeeper of the Year honors in 2016 and made the MLS All-Star squad in 2016 and 2019.
