Former President Donald Trump suggested President Joe Biden is traveling to Pennsylvania to stop the state’s 2020 election audit.
“Joe Biden is going to Pennsylvania today in a rush in order to stop the Forensic Audit that the Pennsylvania Republican Senate is in the process of doing,” Trump said in an email Tuesday, accusing his successor of trying to cover up “new levels” of corruption “that changed so rapidly the Big Trump Win on election night.”
“Philadelphia was a cesspool of corruption, which will soon be revealed by the audit. Why are they so concerned that a President, who never goes anywhere, would hop onto beautiful Air Force One and head to Philadelphia if it were an honest election?” the former president asked in the email. “Why not let the audit go forward and make everybody, on both sides, happy?”
Trump, who has repeatedly claimed the 2020 election was full of fraud, said Democrats such as Biden know “it was not an honest result.” The audit should also be free of federal influence, he suggested.

“The results will be the results,” Trump said, before criticizing Democratic-run cities. “Philadelphia was one of the most corrupt cities in the Country — and so is Detroit, and so is Milwaukee, and so is Atlanta, and Pittsburgh, and Oakland, and Baltimore.”
Biden is traveling to Pennsylvania as part of his national campaign to expand voter access this week. He is specifically looking to push back on Republican state lawmakers who are pushing bills to bolster election security, including stricter voter identification requirements and signature verification of mail-in ballots.
Trump specifically criticized mail-in ballots, claiming Democrats seized on the coronavirus pandemic “to cheat” and reach “new levels” of corruption.
“Joe should say go forward with this, with all of these audits. His visit is a joke,” Trump said. “He doesn’t need to visit, all he needs to do is let them do an audit and find out what happened. Who knows, maybe they’ll say the election was on the up and up, but many people would be shocked. Let the audit go forward like it is in Arizona, despite 107 Democrat lawyers trying to stop it and failing.”
Trump concluded: “Let the Forensic Audit go, Joe. Don’t fight it. Show them how honest it was.”
The audit has been subject to controversy as Democratic lawmakers are seeking to disrupt or discontinue the Republican-backed effort.

Pennsylvania state Sen. Doug Mastriano, the GOP lawmaker who is leading the investigations into the state’s two most recent elections, sent a letter to Biden on Monday calling for him to support the effort.
“A full forensic investigation is necessary for the sake of transparency and accountability,” Mastriano wrote in the letter. “Those who have concerns about the integrity of the election will have those concerns investigated and hopefully addressed. Those who think that there was zero voter fraud, no irregularities and that the elections were conducted perfectly will have the chance to be vindicated.”
