'She Was Miserable': Meghan McCain Was Itching To Leave 'The View' Shortly After She Started, Dishes Source
She was already halfway out the door. After announcing that she would be departing her co-host seat at The View, it has been revealed that Meghan McCain was reportedly "miserable" and wanted to leave the show "not long after she started."
According to Page Six, a source spilled that the staunch Republican has been "wanting to get out, especially since she now lives in the DC area with her family. She doesn’t want to come back to New York and be a part of that show. She’s been miserable since she started."
The former Fox News correspondent, who will stay on at the show until the end of July, joined the infamous talk show back in 2017 and has found herself in many a spat over her four year run.
The source also alleges that execs at ABC were desperate for the new mom to stay on, revealing that “ABC begged for her to stay, [and] she said, ‘No — I’m done! I’m not staying anymore. ABC even offered a contributor role on ABC News, which she turned down.”
“She’s just had enough. She doesn’t need it anymore — she really doesn’t need it.” the source said of her headline making time on the daytime show.
Over the years, The View has had a rotating door of hosts and a reputation for the co-hosts not being so chummy behind the scenes. “The number of people who exit the show, it’s a joke. It’s a game there. It’s under the news division and … they thrive off women fighting. Everyone leaves there with their hair on fire. It’s really vicious.” the source explained.

The daughter of the late John McCain has felt this immensely being the only conservative on the panel with a vastly different outlook than her fellow co-hosts. “People have loved hurting her and being cruel to her the entire time she’s been there,” the source spilled.
This became especially evident when there was a switch up with execs at ABC, “[McCain] no longer had the climate of protection she had under [former ABC News president] James Goldston. When he was there, there was this sense of retribution if you didn’t get along with Meghan. She would act out, yell at the audience, guests, and fight with her co-hosts [on-air], but there was never an ‘OK, you have to get along with your co-hosts. The onus was always on them to get along with her and put up with her bulls–t.”
That all changed when Kim Godwin took over as President of the ABC News division in April of this year and she did not pander to either side. The insider explained, “There was a meeting. Kim didn’t take a side, but she came in with a stern, ‘You have to figure this out.'”
On Thursday, upon McCain announcing that she will be leaving the show, ABC put out a statement saying, “For the past four years, Meghan McCain has brought her fierce determination and vast political knowledge and experience to ‘The View.’ She recently came to us with her decision to depart the show at the end of this season, a difficult choice that she made for her and her family that we respect and understand. We wish the best for Meghan as she plans her next chapter, and thank her for the passion and unique voice that she shared with us and our viewers each day.”
The senator's daughter explained live on air Thursday morning in part, "This is going to be my last season here at The View. I will be here through the end of July to finish out the season with all of you, which I am grateful for."
Although at times the five panelists seem to get along and share a laugh on air, behind the scenes, there will be no love lost with the political pundit's departure with many sources maintaining that the hosts "hate each other."
