Teen Mom Leah Messer reveals how she takes care of her three daughters after beating her addiction to painkillers
TEEN Mom Leah Messer has revealed how she takes care of her three daughters as a single mom after beating her addiction to painkillers.
During the last season of Teen Mom 2, Leah confirmed that following her youngest daughter's birth, she got addicted to painkillers after a botched epidural.
Getting sober to be a better mom
Back in the fall of 2020, Leah was co-dependant on painkillers after she became a mom of three.
Leah shares twins Ali and Aleeah with ex-husband Corey Simms, and Addie, 7, with ex-spouse Jeremy Calvert.
Despite her being visibly under the influence in several episodes, she would deny she had any issues with drugs and simply blamed it on anxiety and stress.
There were even instances when Leah would fall asleep mid-sentence or while holding one of her daughters.
Sadly, this cost her custody of her daughters in 2015.
The reality star entered a treatment facility after Teen Mom 2 producers viewed GoPro footage of her attempting to commit suicide by driving off a cliff.
Being civil with her baby daddies
Despite having issues that ended her two marriages, Leah has been able to maintain a good co-parenting relationship with Cory and Jeremy.
After Ali and Aleeah were born, Leah and Corey got married in a stunning wedding back in 2010.
Unfortunately, their marriage ended after Corey found out Leah had cheated on him while they were engaged.
Despite not having a successful relationship, Corey and Leah have been able to co-parent successfully, despite their 2015 blip when Leah lost custody of the girls due to her drug addiction.
Now, Corey and Leah have 50/50 custody of their daughters and they are superb parents to them, even as Ali battles with muscular dystrophy.
Two years after she and Corey divorced, Leah married Jeremy and sadly, their marriage was also short-lived after cheating rumors and her drug addiction got the best of them.
The two divorced in 2015 but the flame is still burning between them six years later.
Jeremy and Leah have been able to keep up a good co-parenting relationship as well.
Sacrificed her feelings to not confuse her daughters
This point is more geared towards her relationship with Jeremy as the two of them had sparks flying after she got sober.
The two were on and off after their divorce and her daughters even picked up on it, urging them back together.
Throughout their marriage and after their initial divorce, Jeremy and Leah said some hurtful things to each other with the engineer going as far as saying he regretted that Leah was the mother of his daughter.
However, despite the two of them wanting to be together, the uncertainty, the toxic past, and his job being so far made them call it quits for good.
Leah also revealed during a confessional interview that she did not want to confuse her daughters as she and Jeremy had no idea what they wanted, and she would rather cut things off.
Cutting ties with men who the girls disapproved of
After divorcing Jeremy, Leah began dating Jason, who was also a single father of one.
Despite Jason going as far as appearing on the show, meeting Leah's kids, and leaving his own son with Leah from time to time, the two ended things.
After she revealed that their relationship had been toxic and she always felt like she wasn't enough, fans could see that Leah's three daughters were hesitant to get close to Jason as they called him mean and even said they would poison him.
At the time, the girls' comments seemed troubling to viewers and their mom but they sensed that he wasn't the right man for their mom and made their opinions known.
Leah revealed to a Teen Mom 2 producer in 2019: "It just wasn’t right. My kids weren’t feeling it anymore either. They were picking up the energy and it wasn’t okay. You don’t see the behind-the-scenes.”
The MTV star claimed he was on his best behavior when cameras were around.
She explained: “We’ve had a lot of disagreements lately on parenting. He gets openly angry. He gets upset and takes it out on everyone. There was always an expectation I could never meet. What I did was never enough.
"I could get up, cook breakfast, have all the kids ready, go watch his kid, it wasn’t enough.”
She said the final straw was when he kept her dog in the garage when it was 39 degrees.
Not pushing aside two of her daughters as Ali suffers from muscular dystrophy
Since Ali was a baby, Corey and Leah were fully dedicated to her health as she was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy.
Of course, this type of diagnosis consists of 24/7 supervision and trying to make Ali be as independent and self-reliable as possible - but the couple and Leah specifically have been able to do without leaving their other kids behind.
In fact, when Ali was three years old and beginning to learn how to use a wheelchair, Aleeah was there, running beside her twin.
Additionally, Addi and Aleeah have played an integral part of helping Ali and the three sisters have a very strong bond with no resentment.

In fact, in a recent episode of Teen Mom 2, Addie told her mom she wished she could find the cure for MD to help her sister.
This bond would not have been possible without Leah, Corey, and Jeremy making a conscious effort to make them all feel loved and wanted.
