TRUSSVILLE – The scholarship offers are pouring in this summer.
Following a Class 7A runner-up finish in 2020-21, the Hewitt-Trussville girls basketball program has grabbed the attention of college coaches across the state.
According to the team’s Twitter account, a pair of backcourt contributors have recently gathered offers, including two from Southeastern Conference schools.
Jordan Hunter, a rising sophomore point guard, has picked up offers from Auburn, Mississippi State, Jacksonville State and Auburn University at Montgomery. The 5-foot-9 Hunter was named a third-team selection to the 7A all-state roster following last year’s state championship game berth.
Audreonia Benson, a rising junior guard, has also earned a Jacksonville State offer. The sharp-shooting guard also competes on the Huskies track and field team that won the 7A outdoor state championship last season.
Head coach Tonya Hunter saw two 2021 seniors sign scholarships, including Amiya Payne (Middle Tennessee State) and Amir Brown (Talladega College).
