Strong support for election audits like Maricopa’s, just half say Biden won fairly

.

A solid majority of voters supports election integrity audits like the review in Arizona’s Maricopa County in part because many still can’t believe President Joe Biden won fair and square.

Driving the support, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports survey, is the growing divide over those who think Biden won fairly. In new results, 50% said he won “fairly,” and 41% said he didn’t.

That has significance because, in the election, he beat former President Donald Trump 51.3% to 46.8%. Percentage-wise now, fewer think Biden won fairly than voted for him.

Trump and some of his supporters have continued to declare some of the election results unfair or rigged. And Rasmussen found that 55% back audits similar to the one in Arizona.

As with everything, the politics of those polled weighed heavily on the results. Democrats, for example, see no need for audits, but Republicans do.

The analysis said, “President Biden’s strongest supporters are most likely to oppose election audits to ensure that there was no vote fraud. Among voters who ‘strongly approve’ of Biden’s job performance as president, 57% oppose audits like the one in Arizona. By contrast, among voters who ‘strongly disapprove’ of Biden’s performance, 81% support such election audits.”
