McDonald's announced Tuesday its plans to launch its first-ever loyalty program in the U.S. on July 8.

According to CNBC, the move comes after months of testing which started last November. Despite the fast-food chain's successful loyalty program in France, this would be its first in the U.S.

As part of the program, customers would earn 100 points for every dollar that they spend — working towards 16 rewards options, divided into four different tiers.

Items like hash browns or a cheeseburger would require 1,500 points to redeem while A Happy Meal or Big Mac will cost members 6,000 points.

CNBC reports that the loyalty program could potentially lead to more frequent visits, higher average checks and give restaurants key insights about consumers.

As an incentive to join the loyalty program, McDonald's is offering 1,500 points to customers after their first order as a rewards member.
