WAYNE TWP., Auglaize County — A Texas boy, visiting family in Ohio on his third birthday, died after he was pulled from a pond in Auglaize County Friday, according to the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office.
Austin Smith, 3, of Burkburnett, Texas was identified as the boy who died in the drowning incident reported Friday around noon, deputies said in a media release Monday.
Deputies and rescue crews were called to a home, only identified as in the eastern part of the county in Wayne Twp., on reports of a child floating in a pond who was unresponsive.
“No foul play is suspected as this was a tragic accident that remains under investigation,” deputies said.
Smith was pulled from the water and taken to Lima Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, deputies said.
