MOTT HAVEN, The Bronx (WABC) -- New York City mayoral candidate Eric Adams says that one of his campaign volunteers was stabbed with an ice pick in the Bronx on Sunday.

Adams tweeted that the volunteer 'who has been working hard and volunteering every day' was stabbed on 150th Street and Morris Ave.

The 42-year-old volunteer underwent surgery at Lincoln Hospital.

Police say the stabbing stemmed from a fight. The victim, who was putting up campaign posters for Adams was badly injured and ran a block from 150th Street to 149th Street to flag down officers.

"He was out campaigning and some type of dispute happened and he was stabbed multiple times," said Adams.

The suspect fled the scene and police are currently investigating.

Other NYC mayoral candidates tweeted their well wishes for the victim.
