8 Country Music Fathers With Country Music Children

From dad jokes, to dad beers, we like to celebrate fathers here at Whiskey Riff.

Obviously, throughout Country Music history there have been plenty of fathers, but a few of them have gone on to raise extremely musically talented children of their own.

Here’s 8 dads with children that followed in their footsteps:

Hank/Hank Jr./Hank III

There is perhaps no more iconic family in all of country music… will we see a 4th generation?

Rhett Atkins/Thomas Rhett

It’s got to be a great feeling watching your kid become one of the biggest stars in modern country music. They teamed up for a new song called “Things Dads Do” recently, but this one on Thomas’ Life Changes album, “Drink A Little Beer,” is one of his best.

Waylon Jennings/Shooter Jennings

If nothing else, you can say Shooter took the “I’m gonna do it my way” attitude from his father and has created quite the niche for himself. Waylon wrote a children’s song for his boy called “Shooter” for his 1993 release Cowboys, Sisters, Rascals & Dirt.

Steve Earle/Justin Townes Earle

Tragedy stopped the career of Justin last year, but there was no denying the talent and songwriting ability that he had. Steve performed a tribute to his late son for Rolling Stone’s In My Room series early this year.

Willie Nelson/Lukas Nelson

While there are a few Nelson’s running around, it seems Lukas got the most talent from ole Willie. The two of them teamed up for many songs over the years, the most popular being “Just Breathe” from Willie’s 2012 Heroes album. Willie son Micah plays music as well.

Johnny Cash/Rosanne Cash

Growing up in the shadow of the Man In Black would be a daunting task for most people, but Rosanne has done phenomenally for herself. The two released a beautiful song together in 2003 on Rosanne’s Rules Of Travel album called “September When It Comes”.

John Michael Montgomery/Walker Montgomery

A family that has these two, plus Eddie Montgomery and Dillon Carmichael is just unfair. At just 16, Walker joined his dad on stage for a performance of “Life’s A Dance”.

Oh, and Ben Haggard, while not very well know is pretty damn good too…
