Authorities find body of Charlotte man who drowned in NC lake

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities have found the body of a Charlotte man who they said drowned in a North Carolina lake on Saturday.

According to deputies, witnesses said 30-year-old Jamal Brinson was with a group of friends that rented a boat for the day on Falls Lake in Wake County.

At some point, Brinson went into the water with no issues, and then later in the day, he jumped back in to get a piece of clothing that had blown into the water. Witnesses said he went under and never resurfaced.

Nearly 24 hours later, Brinson’s body was found 11 feet below the surface of the lake on Sunday.

The sheriff’s office got a call around 2 p.m. about the drowning near the lake’s Highway 50 boat launch ramp. Several agencies responded and began to search for Brinson into the night.

No other details have been released. This is an ongoing investigation.
