Twenty-five Nebraska State Patrol troopers will head to Del Rio, Texas, later this month and spend no longer than 16 days working alongside the Texas Department of Public Safety to provide law enforcement assistance. Gov. Pete Ricketts said Saturday that the state will send troopers to Texas to help with ongoing concerns in communities along the U.S.-Mexico border.“Nebraska is stepping up to help Texas respond to the ongoing crisis on their border with Mexico,” Ricketts wrote in a public statement. Ricketts criticized the Biden-Harris administration's response to those concerns of undocumented immigration, calling them “disastrous policies.""While the federal government has fallen short in its response," Ricketts said, "Nebraska is happy to step up to provide assistance to Texas as they work to protect their communities and keep people safe.”According to the governor's office, the request for help came from Texas as part of the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, which is a partnership between state emergency management agencies.The EMAC comes after the disaster declaration was issued by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on June 1 in response to the fluctuating situation along the border.
