CLEARWATER — Think twice about ignoring signs when you park off the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

A car appeared stranded off the side of the causeway on Saturday after its owner illegally parked in a habitat restoration area before high tide rolled in, according to a tweet from the Clearwater Police Department.

The blue sedan was surrounded by water about a foot deep, according to photos posted by police.

“Be very careful of where you park when you go for a walk at sunrise and the tide comes rolling in along the Courtney Campbell Causeway,” the tweet said. “The sign and barriers are there for a reason.”

An Instagram video posted Saturday afternoon showed the water topping the front tires and nearly up to the headlights. The windshield wipers were also activated.
