Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder said police responded to reports of shots fired in the Dinkytown neighborhood near the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis just before midnight local time on Friday.

Three men and two women were found at the scene after sustaining noncritical gunshot wounds and were taken to local hospitals in an ambulance.

Elder said the suspect fled the scene before police arrived and indicated authorities are continuing to investigate.

Colorado police also tweeted that officers responded to gunshots at Citadel Mall at 9 p.m. where three juveniles sustained "serious but non-life-threatening" injuries.

Police said they believe the shooting stemmed from "a disturbance between two known groups."

Two of the juveniles were transported to the hospital by an ambulance and family members transported a third.

While officers were on the scene of the first Colorado shooting, a second shooting was reported at a Boston Market across the street, where a suspect confronted three individuals in a parked car and two were hit by gunfire.

Police said they believe the Boston Market shooting took place after the shooting at the mall and it wasn't immediately known if the two incidents were related.
