    Score Free Artwork in this Social Media Scavenger Hunt

    Cooler weather is in our forecast. Are you looking for a fun way to get out and about in Des Moines once temperatures return to normal? Local residents and visitors are in for a fun surprise with a special scavenger hunt featuring local artists during Downtown DSM Tweet Week. Here are the details!

    A special collaboration with area artists and the Greater Des Moines is happening just in time for Downtown DSM Tweet Week. The event will begin on June 19 and conclude on June 27, the last day of the Des Moines Arts Festival®.

    The Downtown DSM Tweek Week will run for nine days with 10 handcrafted birds placed each day, and a total of 90 birds will be hidden throughout the duration of the event.

    Each morning during Tweet Week, an artist will hide 10 birds in Downtown DSM and post photos on social media hinting to the locations. The Partnership will share the clues with interested participants on the @downtownDSMUSA on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Participants can follow Downtown DSM on all social platforms ahead of time to receive updated location hints.

    General locations of the birds will include the Historic East Village, Western Gateway Park, Historic Court District and the Central Downtown area. Downtown Des Moines residents, workers and visitors are encouraged to go on a scavenger hunt for the birds and support local restaurants and retailers as they are exploring the city..

    The current schedule for the locations and artist will be as follows:

    • Emily MacFarland — June 19, June 20 (Western Gateway Park)
    • Diane Hayes — June 21, June 22 (Historic Court District)
    • Marion Nehmer — June 23, June 24 (Historic East Village)
    • Linda Lewis — June 25, June 26 (Central Downtown)
    • Judy Goodwin — June 27 (Central Downtown)

    Need some hints to get you started on where to find these birds around the metro? The Partnership will also share the clues with participants on the @downtownDSMUSA Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Participants can follow Downtown DSM on all social platforms ahead of time to receive updated location hints.

    “With unique events, amenities, restaurants and retailers, Downtown DSM is the place to be this summer,” said Tiffany Tauscheck, Chief Operations Officer at The Partnership in a statement. “We hope this surprise and delight activation gives residents from across the region a chance to experience the vibrancy of Downtown DSM in a different way.”

    Those participating on this tweet quest, are encouraged to abide by the limit of one bird per one participant. They are also encouraged to take and share pictures of their new bird friend on social media using the hashtags #downtownDSM, #DSMlocal or #DSMUSA.

    This activation is part of The Partnership’s Glad You’re Here | Love Downtown DSM series to encourage residents to explore Downtown Des Moines as more people begin to participate in more downtown Des Moines area activities and return to the office this summer.
