Hiker dies after summiting Mount Raymond in Big Cottonwood Canyon

BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah. — A hiker died Wednesday afternoon after reaching the summit of Mount Raymond from Millcreek Canyon’s Baker Pass.

The hiker slipped and fell into Mill A Basin while descending from the top of Mount Raymond. The hiker’s partner was able to make it down to his friend. Upon arrival, he found that the fallen hiker had sustained major head trauma and had died in the fall.

Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (SLCOSAR) dispatched 3 teams to help the surviving hiking partner and to help with the recovery of the body.

Both hikers had summited Mount Raymond, multiple times before.
