A Northern Michigan casino and it’s visitors are giving back to a special group. Grand Traverse Resort and Casinos choose one nonprofit every month for their “Cash In On Kindness” program.

Spare change and uneven amounts from winnings can be donated to charity. On Wednesday, the resort presented two separate checks to Veterans In Crisis, totaling more than

$14,000.

The separate checks come from Bourbons 72 restaurant inside Turtle Creek Casino, which also donated a portion of sales from prime rib dinners and draft beer sales.

“This takes my breath away, we weren’t told that we were going to receive this kind of an amount, ” said David Mikowski of Veterans In Crisis. “The average cost for a vet (and their needs) is between $500-$700. So this roughly could help several dozen veterans right away.”

The Grand Traverse Resort and Casinos will also support Veterans in Crisis during the Heroes Cup golf tournament in late August.
