Celtics star Jayson Tatum reportedly commits to play for Team USA at Tokyo Olympics

Jayson Tatum appears to be heading to Tokyo this summer. 

The Boston Celtics star has committed to play for Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics, which begin next month, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

Tatum is coming off his best season in the NBA, averaging 26.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 45.9 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from three-point range. However, it was also his most challenging. 

The 23-year-old tested positive for COVID-19 in January and admitted that he now has to use an inhaler before games.

This will be Tatum's first Olympics. However, he was a member of the 2019 USA World Cup team that finished in seventh place.

According to The Athletic, USA Basketball has also received commitments from Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green and Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard.  

USA's training camp begins July 6 in Las Vegas. The group stage of the Olympics starts on July 25.
