The “official chaplain” for Stephen Colbert’s comedy shows has become a celebrity of sorts since he began ministering to LGBT Catholics more intentionally after the mass shooting that left 49 people dead. Martin has been hailed by many and reviled by others since he published a book called “Building a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and LGBT Community Can Enter into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and Sensitivity.” Since then, Martin has spoken in churches, at the Catholic Church’s World Conference of Families and even with Pope Francis.
