The Greenbrier County Democratic Executive Committee held its regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, June, 9, 2021.
Following discussion regarding the lack of Democratic leadership in our state, the committee, without dissent, endorsed a resolution of no confidence in the West Virginia State Democratic Party Chairwoman, Belinda Biafore. This follows years of decline of the Democratic Party under her leadership, taking us from a legislative super majority to a super minority. Support for our county Democrats has been non existent, resulting in the disastrous loss of numerous state and local offices in the 2020 election. Statewide assistance for promoting candidates, voter registration, and get out the vote projects has been left entirely to local clubs, candidates, and organizations, with no strategy or planning from our state office. These losses have stalled and lead to the reversal of legislation meant to help the people of West Virginia.
The West Virginia State Democratic Executive Committee held a meeting on June 3 to discuss a new Affirmative Action plan. Drafted at the last minute, and without feedback from the Affirmative Action Committee, a vote was taken, excluding and silencing the very people this plan should have lifted up. The actions shown by the chair in this meeting exemplifies her inability to lead.
Given the facts and issues stated above, the Greenbrier County Democratic Executive Committee has, with no dissent, expressed a vote of no confidence in state chair Belinda Biafore.
