Man charged with homicide after strangling wife in Mercer

COOLSPRING TWP., Pa. — A Mercer County man was charged with homicide after police say he strangled his wife on Monday.

Eric Raymond George, 44, of Mercer, was charged in the death of Serena Schoeder, 41, of Lemoore, California. Police said George called 911 around 10:45 p.m. Monday and reported that he needed emergency services after he had strangled the woman.

When police arrived, they took George into custody and found Schoeder dead inside a mobile home at the Pine Grove Mobile Home Park, 374 N. Perry Highway, Coolspring Township, Mercer County.

According to a news release, an autopsy will be conducted on Tuesday in Erie County. Police identified Schoeder as George’s wife.

Police said George declined to answer questions about the circumstances of the incident. He was taken to the Mercer County Jail and held pending arraignment. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 28.
