Cultural Experience: Juneteenth Soul Festival in The Inland Empire

This year, a grand event is taking place in the city of San Bernardino Ca, to celebrate Juneteenth! The Empire Connect Gives Back presents “The Black Family Reunion” Juneteenth Soul Festival happening June 19, 2021, from 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM PDT.

The 1st annual “Juneteenth Soul Festival” is dedicated to honoring Black American’s achievements- while celebrating the culture and highlighting positive impact of trendsetters in the community. The local business community will unite to network & showcase their creativity.

The event will not only commemorate the past historical significance of Juneteenth, according to Event Organizer and Host Jacquetta Green, the function aims to “celebrate our growth as we embark on the success of our community & our needs moving forward to be exposed to the achievers amongst them. We would like to seize the opportunity to publicly salute our empowering, inspirational peers and to find our place in our ancestors’ lineage”.

The event is slated to have live local entertainment with performing artists, bands, and musicians. Family fun & games, with a variety of delicious soul food vendors, and an open marketplace with vendors from different industries, including hair, body care, beauty, fashion, jewelry, and personal development. Location for the festivities is at -127 W 40th St San Bernardino, CA 92407.

Among the keynote speakers will be Pastor Robert A. Goins Shropshire. He will give a special tribute at the cultural celebration entitled "Why We Celebrate". He also has a tribute to his Late Grandmother who was a staple in the Civil Rights movement alongside Martin Luther King. If you ever heard or sang the hymn "We shall overcome" Louise Shropshire was the creator and driving force that brought us that soothing spiritual vibe.

Juneteenth is a day that commemorates and celebrates the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it is now celebrated annually on June 19 throughout the United States, with growing calls to make it a legal National Holiday.

It is commemorated on the anniversary date of the June 19, 1865, announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union Army general Gordon Granger, proclaiming freedom from slavery in Texas.
