Woman shot on I-85 N near Ga. 400 in drive-by shooting, police say

ATLANTA — Authorities are searching for the person who fired shots into a car early Monday morning on Interstate 85 near Lindbergh in Midtown Atlanta, injuring a woman inside.

Police closed lanes of I-85 north at Ga. 400 around 5 a.m. due to the investigation.

According to police, around 4:45 a.m., the victim was a passenger in a car driving on I-85 when a black sedan pulled beside of the car.

The woman was injured, and the driver pulled over. The other shooter’s car drove off.

Police said the drivers of the two cars were involved in some sort of dispute and fired at each other.

The victim was taken to the hospital and was listed as stable.

NewsChopper 2 over the scene on Channel 2 Action News This Morning showed officers investigating a light-colored sedan in the shoulder of the interstate.

There have been more than a dozen highway shootings in Atlanta in 2021. The shootings have happened on I-20, I-85, Ga. 400 and I-285.

Police said in a news conference Monday that none of the incidents are related, and that most stemmed from some sort of road rage incident.

Only a hand full of arrests have been made.
