Bill Murray marks the return of full capacity seating at Chicago's Wrigley Field by singing rousing rendition of Take Me Out To The Ball Game

It's a first since COVID-19 was deemed a pandemic 15 months ago, which subsequently shutout of fans from the stands during the 2020 season.

On Friday, with the sun glaring down and temperatures hovering in the upper 80s Fahrenheit, Wrigley Field was back open to full capacity for an afternoon matchup between the hometown Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals.

And to celebrate the occasion, lifelong Cubs fan Bill Murray sang a rousing rendition of Take Me Out To The Ball Game during the team's traditional seventh inning stretch. 

Dressed in a blue button-down shirt and a Cubs baseball cap, Murray stepped to the microphone in the announcer's box and wasted little time riling up the crowd of 35, 112.  

'This is what it feels like to be 100%,' Murray shouted out to screaming fans, eliciting a round of loud applause from many in attendance. 

'And we're going to be louder from right now until the last out in the top of the ninth inning, understood?!'

'Let's scare the hell out of these Cardinals, let's scare them,' the Caddyshack star, 70, declared seconds before going into the opening of Take Me Out To The Ballgame in the middle of the seventh inning, which has been a tradition for the team since the mid-1970s.    

The entire crowd appeared to be standing and singing along with the Chicago native, making it a powerful moment for many, considering what the country has gone through in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. 

And in true Bill Murray fashion, the actor and comedian made sure to hold the last note of the song for as long as possible.

The Cubs captured the moment on video and shared it on its official Twitter page, captioning it: 'The one and only Bill Murray. #CubTogether.' 

This was the first time the hometown team hosted a game at full-capacity since the end of the 2019 season.

In the end, the Cubs players were able to cap off the glorious afternoon by sending fans home with a win, by beating the Cardinals 8 to 5.     

In recognition of the fans being able to pack in Wrigley Field, the team dubbed the daytime showcase, 'Opening Day 2.0.'
