A woman was wounded in an apparent drive-by shooting early Friday evening in North Long Beach, police said.

Officers were called about the shooting around 6 p.m. and headed to the 1200 block of Hungerford Street, several blocks east of the Michelle Obama Library.

At the scene, officers located a 55-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the upper body, police said. Long Beach fire personnel transported her to a local hospital, and she is expected to survive, according to the LBPD.

A man told police he was speaking with the woman out on the street before the shooting when a sedan drove by and someone inside the vehicle shot the woman, according to the LBPD.

As the investigation continues, police could not say what prompted the shooting and could not provide more details on a suspect or suspect vehicle.
