LAKEHURST – A friend of a borough family is organizing a fundraiser to help them with their loss and expenses.

Christina Celauro of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, organized the GoFundMe campaign for borough resident Terry Gardner. She is trying to assist Gardner’s family with the final expenses.

Gardner died on June 5 from injuries she sustained during a May 27 accident. “She was in a horrific accident. God called her home and ended her suffering. Unfortunately, not only has this left her family deeply saddened by the sudden loss but without insurance, it will be a struggle figuring out how they will have the means to afford a proper funeral,” Celauro said.

Celauro added that Gardner’s family which includes two small children are dealing with numerous expenses. “Terry did not have much but she was the type of person who always tried to get involved and help people any time she could.”

The accident involved a Jeep Liberty and a BMW near the intersection of Route 70 and Route 547 in Lakehurst, according to Police Chief Matthew Kline.

Gardner, who was driving the Jeep Liberty was thrown from it during the accident. She was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Lifesaving measures were performed and she was in critical condition for days until she succumbed to her injuries.

The passenger in the BMW suffered a head injury and also was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The driver of the BMW had minor injuries and was treated at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood. Both were released following treatment.

The Jeep Liberty ended up in the westbound lane of Route 70 with extensive damage, and the BMW also was also extensively damaged. That vehicle ended up off the road near the entrance to the Gulf station, according to Kline said.
