Mets' Carlos Carrasco now a doubt to make season debut in July?

If no news is truly good news, then any news appears to be bad news as it pertains to the health of New York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco.

As noted by Mets broadcast partner SNY, team president Sandy Alderson explained during a Thursday appearance on MLB Network that he's "hopeful" Carrasco will be able to make his official debut for the club "between early and late July."

Alderson's update comes after Mets manager Luis Rojas told reporters on Wednesday that the 34-year-old was no longer throwing off the slope of the mound as he works to strengthen the torn hamstring he first suffered in March that has kept him out of the big leagues since before the start of the regular season. He joined the team via the January trade that included the Mets acquiring All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor from the Cleveland Indians.

Carrasco was first on track to make his way into the rotation by late May but had that timeline pushed back to anywhere between mid-June and early July. At the very least, it now seems he won't be available at any point this month and, at worst, could remain away from the active roster through the end of July and the trade deadline.

The Mets begin their weekend home series versus the San Diego Padres at 30-24 overall and in first place in the National League East standings but may have to shop for a pitcher over the next six weeks depending on Carrasco's status a month from now.
