Barrow Co Commissioners consider SPLOST projects

Tony Price has died: the Planning Commissioner for the City of Braselton was admitted to a hospital in late April with a diagnosis of coronavirus. Price, who was from Buford, leaves behind a wife and two teenaged children.

Barrow County Commissioners are putting the finishing touches on the list of projects that could be funded with the passage of a November sales tax referendum. The SPLOST referendum, if approved by Barrow County voters, could pay for a $38 million expansion of the Barrow County detention center.

City officials are trying to plot a path forward after this week’s abrupt resignations of two City Councilmen in Bowman, one of them the city’s Mayor Pro Tem. Randy Noyes and Chris Johnson stepped down after accusing Bowman city officials of unethical and possibly illegal conduct. At issue is a dispute over the proposed sale of some city-owned buildings in Bowman.
