PRINCETON, N.J. - Film Director Robert Orlando debuts his Silence Patton film on Newsmax-TV on June 12, three days before releasing his book Citizen Trump: A One Show. Is there a connection?

“Working on the Patton and Trump projects, I feel like I’ve just spent many months talking to both of these men daily, and it’s increasingly apparent both Patton and Trump were very similar warriors fighting the exact same forces,” Orlando said.

“Both battled communism, warning Americans about Leftist totalitarian forces, both were sidelined for their ‘behavior,’ both were silenced and kept coming back.”

What does Donald Trump have in common with General George Patton? Author and filmmaker Robert Orlando explores the topic.Image by Nexus Media.

Both Patton and Trump, and the fights they waged against the media and totalitarian ideologies, are explored in Orlando’s newest books and films:

Are the three films/books part of a bigger story? From Patton to Reagan/John Paul to Trump today, the books and movies showcase bold and beloved leaders who each flipped conventional wisdom upside down, warning about, confronting, and defeating the popular totalitarian forces of their time, Orlando said.

In each case, the same defeated forces regroup and keep coming back to face brave fighters ready to fight back.

“Each time, the media never quite got them or knew how to tell their true story,” Orlando said. “That’s why journalism is called the first draft of history: it gives you the broad strokes but always misses the details, and often, the media completely misses the entire point. After the fact, whether it’s a year later (for Trump’s story) or 75 years later (with Patton’s story), the true story and amazing drama become far more meaningful.”

In each case, Orlando added, Patton, Trump, Reagan, and John Paul, were performers, men who told stories and moved people like no one else could in their lifetimes.

Reagan and John Paul both began their life as actors. At the same time, Trump and Patton were both bold public speakers, loudly challenging the accepted norms of their times to warn of more enormous challenges that needed to be confronted immediately.

Orlando is president of Princeton, N.J.-based Nexus Media and produces the films as director of the Nexus Project.
