Former England midfielder Jermaine Jenas stitched up by Scotland legend Ally McCoist as auld enemies crank up the rivalry ahead of Euro 2020 showdown

England vs Scotland is the oldest fixture in international football and with both teams in Group D for Euro 2020, that famous rivalry will be rekindled on Friday June 18.

As part of the build-up to the eagerly awaited clash, a Scottish legend was keen to get one over the Auld Enemy ahead of them kicking off under the Wembley arch.

Ally McCoist, the last Scotsman to score at a European Championship back in 1996, teamed up with official Euro 2020 partner Heineken to stitch up former England midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

Jenas, a respected pundit and presenter since hanging up his boots, believed he had been given the honour of modelling a special Heineken suit to mark the 60th anniversary of the tournament at a ‘live’ photoshoot presented by Emma Dodds.

But what he didn’t know was that joker and fellow pundit McCoist was directing much of the shoot, from behind the scenes.

Jenas was a cool customer on the pitch, playing more than 250 Premier League games for Newcastle and Tottenham and winning 21 England caps but he appeared rather flustered while being fitted by an over-attentive tailor. So flustered in fact he didn’t notice his suit jacket being switched for one with a giant Scotland flag on the back.

When prompted by Dodds to look in the mirror, he then realised he’d been done as McCoist and a bagpiper joined the party.

Jenas said: ‘I was very flattered to be asked to model the anniversary suit, it was made by a brilliant Savile Row tailor. I like my fashion and nothing seemed out of the ordinary about the shoot until I realised that I was being broadcast with the flag of our biggest rivals spread across my back.

‘When Ally appeared out of nowhere, the penny dropped as there were a few other Scottish references throughout the day. Hopefully, England will take the victory on June 18 and that might keep even Ally McCoist quiet.’

McCoist, who scored the last of his 19 international goals against Switzerland in the final group game of Euro 96, said: ‘Jermaine is a dapper fellow who can strike a pose even better than he could a football. We just knew he wouldn’t be able to resist the offer of tailor-made suit and a photoshoot.

‘Everyone could see what was on his back apart from him and I took great pleasure in getting him to model it for the camera.

‘Jermaine’s face was an absolute picture when he realised he’d been stitched up. This is a victory for the Scots and I’ll raise my glass for another one at Wembley!’

McCoist and Jenas have teamed up with Heineken - official partner of the Euros this summer 

McCoist’s fellow Scot Dodds said: ‘I’ve never had so much fun seeing an interviewee unsettled by the carefully planned comments and distractions going on around. 

'Jermaine is normally so calm and composed in front of the camera, but he looked very confused. Let’s hope that the Scots unsettle England in the same fashion when they meet on the pitch.’

England’s tournament gets underway against Croatia at Wembley on Sunday with the Scots taking on the Czech Republic at Hampden the following day. Then it’s the big one at Wembley.
