Jill Biden invites Melania Trump comparisons with ‘LOVE’ jacket on first foreign trip

First lady Jill Biden almost welcomed comparisons between herself and former first lady Melania Trump with a fashion statement in the United Kingdom.

Biden’s decision to wear a black Zadig & Voltaire jacket with the word “LOVE” on the back in capital letters to meet British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie drew contrasts with Trump’s choice to don her green “I Really Don’t Care Do U?” Zara coat.

“We’re bringing love from America,” Biden told reporters near Cornwall in England’s southwest on Thursday. “This is a global conference, and we’re trying to bring unity across the globe, and I think that’s important right now that you have a sense of unity.”

The first lady previously wore the jacket to the 2019 Philadelphia launch of now-President Joe Biden’s campaign.

Prior to that, Trump was pilloried in 2018 when she wore the “I Really Don’t Care Do U?” jacket to board a government plane headed to the U.S.-Mexico border for a visit of detention centers housing migrant children.

During his first public international event on Wednesday, Joe Biden pitched his eight-day tour of the U.K. and Europe as a reset of the United States’s posture abroad after four years of President Donald Trump’s “America First” policies.

“The United States is back, and democracies of the world are standing together,” he told U.S. troops stationed at Royal Air Force Mildenhall north of London. “Our alliances weren’t built by coercion or maintained by threats — they’re grounded on democratic ideals, shared visions of the future, and where every voice matters.”

On Thursday, Biden and Johnson viewed the Atlantic Charter, which expressed the joint U.S.-U.K. goals for the post-World War II era, and held bilateral sideline talks before a G-7 summit with other world leaders.

“I told the prime minister, we have something in common: We both married way above our station,” Biden said.

Johnson added: “I’m not going to dissent from that one. I’m not going to disagree with the president on that, or disagree on anything else is highly likely.”
