The Hollywood stars who lived in Coral Gables, Florida

Coral Gables is known to be one of Florida's most affluent cities. Unlike many other American cities, it started out as a planned Mediterranean-themed community.

With its historic and affluent ambiance, it is not surprising that some of the biggest stars in Hollywood once chose to live here.

Here are a few of Hollywood's biggest stars who called Coral Gables their home.

Dwayne Johnson (The Rock)

Dwayne Johnson is currently one of the most famous and highest paid actors in Hollywood. Prior to his Hollywood career, he was famous in the World Wrestling Federation.

Johnson is originally from Miami, Florida. He lived in Coral Gables when he attended the University of Miami where he was known as a good college football player. He graduated from the University of Miami in 1995 and even received an Alumnus of Distinction award from the university in 2013.

Johnson continues to support the university today by donating to its alumni center and football facilities.

He didn't always have it easy when he was at the University of Miami. He has said,

I had a challenging time staying on the right path, it was tough for me, I just had surgery.. I got injured on the football field and I was placed on academic probation. - Dwayne Johnson

Johnson still has ties to Coral Gables. His Dwayne Johnson Rock Foundation charity is reportedly based in Coral Gables.

Sylvester Stallone

In the 1980s and 1990s, Stallone was one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood. Who can forget his performances in the Rocky and Rambo movies?

Stallone also lived in Coral Gables when he attended the University of Miami from 1967 to 1969. He was a drama major at the university. Later in life, he also received the Alumnus of Distinction Award from the University of Miami.

Although Stallone was born in New York City, he has never forgotten his Miami years. He reportedly bought a mansion in Miami in the 1990s and still has a home in Florida today.

Ray Liotta

Ray Liotta is most famous for his role in Goodfellas. He was born in Newark, New Jersey but attended the University of Miami in the late 1970s and received a BFA in 1978.

In an interview with the University of Miami's student newspaper, The Miami Hurricane, Liotta mentioned that he got into acting because it was one way he could impress a girl he was interested in. He stated that he acted in a lot of plays at the university.

The University of Miami in Coral Gables isn't the only source of Hollywood stars. It has been reported in recent news that music star Pharrell bought a $30 million house in the area. Also, Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez (before their breakup) lived in Coral Gables during the 2020 pandemic. Coral Gables is also home to music pop stars Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello.
