Another former Trump White House staffer considering congressional bid

Another member of former President Donald Trump’s administration is considering her own run for political office.

Karoline Leavitt, who served as assistant press secretary during the previous administration, might throw her name into the race for New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District.

“New Hampshire is my home,” she said on social media in response to an article about a potential campaign from the New Hampshire Journal, which first reported the news. “I moved to Washington to serve President Trump and the American people, not to become a swamp creature. It has always been my intention to move back, and I’ve heard from many Granite Staters who are looking for a young, conservative fighter.”

Leavitt, once the Biden administration took over, became GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik’s communications director but recently left that position to return to her home state of New Hampshire.

“Karoline did great work on behalf of the American people in the White House and in my congressional office. Her future is bright,” Stefanik told the outlet, while former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany called her “a standout talent on the press staff [who] has exceeded any and all expectations.”

Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas is currently in his second term as the representative from New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District. He has not announced whether he’ll seek a third term.

Pappas beat GOP nominee Matt Mowers in the 2020 general election, though Mowers is preparing to run again in 2022.

Other former Trump officials who have announced runs for government offices include Max Miller and Sarah Sanders, both of whom have received Trump’s endorsement.

Miller is running against Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, the representative from the Buckeye State’s 16th Congressional District, who was one of 10 House Republicans who voted in favor of the “incitement of insurrection” article of impeachment following the Jan. 6 breach of the Capitol.

Sanders is running to be the next governor of Arkansas.
