In this day and age, police officers so often come under criticism for not adhering to the the values that their very profession upholds.
Of late, our boys in blue have faced any number of questions as to their moral and ethnic codes. As is so often the case, it’s the few letting down the many, and the whole police force shouldn’t suffer simply because one in one hundred may be bad apples.
Indeed, many officers are brave and compassionate people. Or else why would they take the pledge to serve and protect, sometimes literally putting their lives on the line to do so?
A Massachusetts police officer with the Worcester Police Department gave his life at the weekend in the process of trying to save a teenager from drowning.
As per sorrowful reports, Enmanuel “Manny” Familia leapt into action on Friday, June 4 after dispatch received numerous reports about a person drowning in a pond at Green Hill Park.
Responders on the scene, including Enmanuel and a group of other officers, as well as firefighters with the Worcester Fire Department, witnessed a male struggling in the center of the pond.
A total of five officers entered the water to locate and rescue the drowning male, as well as to ensure the safety of the others who were also in the water.
They managed to get two individuals safely to the shore, though were then notified that Enmanuel was missing, along with a teenager who had been in the pond.
Divers would later locate the missing officer and get him to shore. Medics initiated life-saving protocols before transporting him to a hospital. Sadly, tough, he could not be saved. Enmanuel leaves behind his wife, Jennifer, and their two kids, Jovan and Jayla.
Furthermore, the divers also recovered the body of the 14-year-old male that Enmanuel had been trying to rescue.
