PITTSBURGH — Klavon’s Ice Cream Parlor received more than 1,000 applicants after raising their minimum wage to $15 an hour.
They are now trying to help some of those applicants find jobs at other businesses.

On social media, Klavon’s owner posted that they have a lot of screened applicants, and are looking to help restaurants and other businesses that are struggling to hire staff.
The ice cream shop owner is connecting businesses who reach out to him to some of the applicants who didn’t get hired at Klavon’s.
“The waitlist to get into Klavon’s is really long, so we thought we would help other employers and we have been doing that,” explained owner Jacob Hanchar.
“You start feeling like these people deserve jobs too, and you don’t want to keep them on a waitlist of some sort. We thought it was really nice to help these people find jobs,” explained Hanchar.
Hanchar won’t pass on resumes to just anyone, though.
“The rule I have with all these businesses that are reaching out and trying to hire people, you have to say the wage up front and be comparable to what we are hiring. If you’re trying to get someone at $2.25 an hour or something like that, we aren’t going to help you,” he said. “Take that leap of faith. Increase your wages and you’ll see the benefit from it. We have so far, and I think they will too.”
