    Indianapolis is the state capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Indiana and the seat of Marion County. 

    Indianapolis is the 29th largest economic region in the U.S.

    Indianapolis is best known for annually hosting the world’s largest single-day sporting event, the Indianapolis 500.

    Moreover, Indianapolis is home to the largest collection of monuments dedicated to veterans and war casualties in the U.S. outside of Washington, D.C.

    White River State Park

    White River State Park is one of seven designated cultural districts in Indianapolis. It has 250 acres and it’s located on the western edge of the downtown area at 801 West Washington Street. 

    White River State Park has attractions such as the Indiana State Museum and IMAX Theater, the Indianapolis Zoo and White River Gardens, the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, the NCAA Headquarters and Hall of Champions, the Medal of Honor Memorial, Victory Field, Military Park, the Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn Concert Series, and the Indiana Cross Country Arena.

    Indiana State Soldiers and Sailors Monument

    The Indiana State Soldiers and Sailors Monument is a 284 ft 6 in a tall neoclassical monument built on Monument Circle.

    It is a circular, brick-paved street that intersects Meridian and Market streets in the center of downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. 

    The monument is an iconic symbol of Indianapolis, the state capital of Indiana. 

    On February 13, 1973, The Indiana State Soldiers and Sailors Monument was added to the National Register of Historic Places. In 2016, it was included in an expansion of the Indiana World War Memorial Plaza National Historic Landmark District.

    The Indiana State Soldiers and Sailors Monument is located in the Washington Street-Monument Circle Historic District. 

    It’s the largest outdoor memorial and the largest of its kind in Indiana.

    Between 1888 and 1901, was built and it was designed by German architect Bruno Schmitz. 

    The Indiana State Soldiers and Sailors Monument’s purpose is to honor Hoosiers who were veterans of the American Civil War. It was also a tribute to Indiana’s soldiers who served during the American Revolutionary War, the Mexican–American War, and the Spanish–American War. 

    The Indiana State Soldiers and Sailors Monument is the first in the United States to be dedicated to the common soldier.

    Indianapolis Zoo

    The Indianapolis Zoo is a zoo located in White River State Park, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

    It has more than 3,800 animals of more than 320 species and subspecies. 

    The Indianapolis Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the American Alliance of Museums as a zoo, an aquarium, and a botanical garden. 

    The Indianapolis Zoo is a private non-profit organization, receiving no tax support and is supported entirely by membership fees, admissions, donations, sales, grants, and an annual fundraiser.

    Lilly House and Gardens

    Lilly House and Gardens are also known as Oldfields. 

    Lilly House and Gardens is a 26-acre historic estate and house museum at Newfields in Indianapolis, Indiana.

    Lilly House and Gardens is an example of the American country house movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In 2003, it was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark.

    It was built between 1909 and 1913. It was designed by architect Lewis Ketcham Davis for the family of Hugh McKennan Landon. They lived in the home from 1913 until 1932.

    In 1932, it was sold to Josiah K. Lilly Jr., an Indianapolis businessman, collector, and philanthropist. He renovated and expanded the estate. 

    It has 22 rooms. 

    Lily House reflects the 1930s era when the Lilly family occupied the residence. The gardens and grounds are a rare example of a preserved estate landscape designed by Percival Gallagher of the Olmsted Brothers firm.

    Indiana State Museum

    The Indiana State Museum is a museum located within White River State Park in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. 

    The Indiana State Museum exhibits the science, art, culture, and history of Indiana from prehistoric times up to the present day. 

    The museum also has the state’s largest IMAX screen.
