Harvey Elliott had a sensational breakthrough season at Ewood Park for Blackburn Rovers. The academy star managed to get seven goals and 12 assists in 42 games on his loan move.

Since joining from Fulham's academy in 2019, Elliott has been highly rated by Liverpool's coaching staff and Jurgen Klopp. As soon as he joined, the 18-year-old has always been training and in and around the first team.

Elliott capped off a sensational loan move with getting second place in the EFL Young Player of the Season award, only behind Readings Michael Olise.

Harvey Elliott recently spoke on the latest Ranks FC podcast and revealed a lot about his plans for his Liverpool career.

The 18-year-old was asked about his targets for the new season and said "Just to be in the team, that's it. There's no blockage in age now.

"You see youngsters all the time in football so I can't use that as an excuse. I need to go in and show people I can be trusted and can play for the team."

Elliott also said what he needs to do to seriously compete with Liverpool's star wingers Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

"Goals," said Elliott. "If you look at Salah, he's just goals, goals, goals, goals, goals. He's always thinking about getting into the right positions and how to score when they come.

"I need to adapt that in my game. I personally think the assists and passes will come if I'm in the right position to play those passes. But now it's about working on my goals and my speed.

"I understand I'm not the quickest but I need to use my brain to be one step ahead of everyone else.

"There's a lot of work I need to do to improve my game, but it's easily done."

The 18-year-old was also asked about his signature hairstyles and he revealed what Liverpool vice-captain James Milner said to him when he first saw him.

"James Milner is always on my case saying 'you need to cut it, you need to cut it'," said Elliott.

"The first thing he said when I saw him was 'Here he is, the scarecrow!' Millie is a legend and has helped all of us youngsters along the way.

"He has been through what I have been through, making his debut at 16. Where he is now is where I want to be."

This is the confidence that we need in our young players and after his impressive season, there will be a lot of Liverpool fans who hope that Elliott can break into the first team next season.
